Recently I took a day hike in Whitewater State Park in southeastern Minnesota. This is a scenic and very unique geological area in this part of Minnesota featuring diverse ecosystems and dramatic landscapes. There are steep bluffs and deep valleys crisscrossed with hiking trails making it a wonderful area to explore and seek photographic opportunities. It was a beautiful day when I was there. Even though it’s still late summer much of the foliage is already starting to take on a yellow tinge, signaling that autumn is not far off. I started on the Chimney Rock Trail which features some steep steps going to the top of a ridge. I continued on the Inspiration Point Trail and down to the Trout Run Creek Trail. I’ve always been drawn to photographing water recflections so I couldn’t help but snap some while walking along the bank of Trout Run Creek.

The meadows were full of late summer wild flowers making for some beautiful displays of colors as pictured at the top and below.

If you’re ever looking for a great place to take day hikes in this part of Minnesota and enjoy this beautiful world that’s been gifted to us, Whitewater State Park is highly recommended.
