On my way through Kansas I spent a few hours hiking in the Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve. This is in a region known as the Flint Hills. It is the largest preserve of native tallgrass prairie left in the country. It’s a wonderful place with about 40 miles of hiking trails and lots of scenic vistas. On the day I was there it was extremely windy so taking close-ups of the abundant wildflowers was not really possible. It was a great hike and I tried to get some decent shots of the beautiful panoramic views. There was also something almost magical about seeing the landscape much as it was before it was settled. There is even a heard of bison in the park although I only saw them from a distance. The last picture in the series includes an historic one room schoolhouse which served the area in days past.
